The five counties that make up Planning District Nine will be included in the promotional efforts of the Foothills Travel Association, a group that met for the third time earlier this month and approved articles of incorporation to be sent on to the State Corporation Commission for approval.
Representatives from business and local government groups elected a board of directors which includes two representatives from each of the member counties, according to William H. Strider, director of the planning district.
Nan Thomasson, Washington Town Council member and proprietor of Country Heritage and Heritage House in Washington, and Sandra Cartwright-Brown of the Conyers House in Slate Mills were board members chosen from Rappahannock.
“Rappahannock is well represented and very active in this group,” said Mr. Strider. He explained that the organization had originally met in May in response to the State Department of Tourism’s request that the counties develop promotional ideas and material based on their planning district grouping.
