“At each meeting we’ve had more people and gotten more accomplished,” said Mrs. Thomasson. She invited interested Rappahannock residents to attend the next meeting, which will be held August 5 at Meadowood in Slate Mills.
Eventually, according to Mr. Strider, the group will develop a kind of “tourist inventory,” a list of attractions, natural, recreational and commercial, that would draw visitors to this region. The promotional material containing this information would then be available at tourist centers, airports, and at each single attraction. In this way, each business or county that benefits from the tourism dollar can inform visitors of other opportunities in the region.
“We don’t warit anyone to get the mistaken idea that residential development is part of our purpose,” said Mrs. Thomasson. “In fact, this type of development was specifically and unanimously stricken from our goals.”
After the new board members meet July 30 and approve the proposed bylaws, the officers will be named, said Mr. Strider. He encouraged anyone interested in participating in the new association to call him at the planning district office in Culpeper, talk to a board member, or simply show up at the August 5 membership meeting.
