The commissioners agreed to review the draft chapter and offer additional changes—if necessary—at next month’s meeting when they’ll receive the plan’s second installment.
“John (McCarthy, zoning administrator and administrative assistant to the Board of Supervisors) and I will be working on this together,” noted Mr. Strider. “I’m very thankful that the county now has a staff person. The comprehensive plan will be better for it.”
In a quick review of requests coming up before the Board of Zoning Appeals, the planning commissioners voted unanimously to recommend approval for Kinsey and Deborah Wharton’s application for a variance to build a roofed carport. The zoning ordinance requires a 50foot setback from the rear property line; the carport will be set back just 38 feet. “When I looked at the plan for this, it appeared that the shape of the lot is creating a hardship for them,” said Dr. Krebser, meeting agreement from hia fellow commissioners.
The commissioners also recommended issuance of a special use permit to Ashby Jenkins to rebuild the Pentecostal Church next door to the Aileen plant, conditional upon Health Department approval of a septic permit. The church burned earlier this year after being struck by lightning.
At the start of the meeting, Planning Commission chairman A. Y. Stokes announced the resignation of David Thornhill, the commission’s representative from StonewallHawthom District.
