Mrs. Melton taught in public and private schools, including the schools of Madison, Rappahannock and Page counties, and in North Carolina. She attended Mars Hill College, received her bachelor’s degree from Chowan College and did graduate work at Wake Forest University. She was also a graduate nurse. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband the Rev. Dr. C. Franklyn Melton, two daughters, Mrs. Thomas B. Massie of Washington and Mrs. Kenneth B. Fisher of Rochelle, four grandchildren, a brother Thomas H. Caudle of Charlotte, N. C., and a sister Mrs. Lester Smith of Albemarle, N. C.
Graveside services were conducted July 18 at the Goochland Baptist Church Cemetery in Manakin-Sabot in Goochland County.
A service of music in memoriam was held July 19 at Grace United Methodist Church, Middletown.
Beverly Clark, organist, was in charge of the music. The Rev. Susan Schweitzer Garrett gave the eulogy.
The family suggests that sympathy may be expressed through contributions to the Front Royal Rescue Squad or Grace United Methodist Church at Middletown.
