Accident Reduction Effort —for the ninth consecutive year, Virginia troopers patrolled 134,323 miles during the holiday and assisted 3,327 stranded or otherwise distressed motorists.
Operation CARE is a state-sponsored national program in which the Department’s involvement includes increasing the visibility of troopers on selected sections of the state’s interstate and major primary highways to promote safe driving habits by motorists.
Troopers arrested or issued summons to 5,025 motorists during the July 4 holiday period, including 3,430 for speeding, 561 reckless driving, 66 driving drunk, and 968 for other hazardous violations.
