Parenting an infant can be confusing and frustrating at times. That’s why on August 12 Joanne Russell, RN, will present a two-hour seminar on general child care, with special emphasis on psycho-social development of the infant. The seminar is sponsored by Culpeper Memorial Hospital and Culpeper County Health Department.
“Infants are very different from adults, not only in appearance, but in thinking and feeling. They have no patience or understanding, and their basic needs must be met in order for them to grow and develop trust,” said Ms. Russell.
She encouraged participants to bring their babies with them to the seminar since the class will include instruction on how to address these basic needs. Ms. Russell plans to discuss not only feeding, napping, hygiene, and child safety, but also how to cope with the inner frustration that comes with parenting a newborn.
The seminar is free of charge, and the public is invited to attend. It will be held in the Culpeper Memorial Hospital board room on Tuesday, August 12, from 2 to 4. Call the Community Relations department at 829-4307 to register.
