The Rappahannock County Library recently received a grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy to conduct a series of lectures and discussions of four American novels of the 1920s.
The $1,050 grant, which matches donations from the Rappahannock community, will finance lecture fees, travel costs, books to lend and promotion of the series to begin Tuesday, September 9. The series will continue on Mondays, September 15 and 29 and October 13 and 27.
The novels chosen are Edith Wharton’s Age of Innocence, Willa Cather’s Lost Lady, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby, and Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises.
Project director Diana Bird says lecturers will be asked to focus on the function of style in the works.
