At Tuesday night’s public hearing, there was general agreement that Rappahannock has problems: too many deer and too many “slob hunters.” But the polite and orderly crowd that filled the upstairs courtroom disagreed on the solutions for the supervisors to propose to the Virginia Game Commission this January.
To control “slob hunters” who trespass and shoot from the road, A some asked for cased gun legislation. But others vehemently opposed even the local option laws which would make it illegal to carry a loaded rifle or a shotgun in a motor vehicle or on a public right-of-way without permission to hunt from landowners on both sides of the road.
