Washington’s elegant past.
Country Heritage’s “Ice House” (next door to Heritage House) will feature quilter and wreath-maker Sandy Williams, who will demonstrate the art of wreath-making. Her husband, Doug, will discuss restoration of string instruments, and might throw in an occasional tune as well.
Christopher Goodine, silver and goldsmith, will be at his showroom on Main Street both Saturday and Sunday. He will demonstrate his craft and exhibit his well-known “wave-length” creations from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The Middle Street Gallery, located next to The Inn at Little Washington, has several events and exhibitions planned for the weekend. Rappahannock basketmaker Cathy Kiley will be demonstrating her techniques for weaving honeysuckle and grapevine wreaths on Saturday at 2 p.m. At 7 p.m. Saturday, the gallery will celebrate the gala opening of its Group Christmas Show. Sunday at 2 p.m., Joel Hoyer will be demonstrating the art of gold gilding, which he has practiced at such well-known homes as “big” Washington’s White House. In contrast to the formal dancing of the minuet, on Saturday night at 7 and 9, the Gallery will exhibit the peasant dancing of the era, including hornpipes, jigs and reels.
