A copy of the following letter was sent to each member of the Board of Supervisors for their consideration prior to Tuesday’s hearing about hunting.

Rappahannock County Gentlemen:

The issues you propose to consider in the advertised 12/2/86 hearing cannot be covered by a genius in three minutes.

I submit the following observations:

1) Extension of the deer season can only increase your hoodlum hunter problem and, in addition, penalize landowners with an unnecessarily prolonged season.

2) Increase the limit if you will but if you want to decrease the herd (one-half plus which is in the Park and out of your control), shorten the season and allow both sexes to be taken during the season . . . say a 14 day season, either sex for first 10 days.

3) Pay no attention to newcomers who purchased land adjacent to the Park (did not investigate before they invested) and now want to plant apple orchards.

4) Help those older orchardists adjacent to the Park (where government condemned land adjacent as a Park) only if they have helped themselves :— i.e. tried to lease hunting rights, or do not post their land, or who advertise hunting by invitation or
