“We were suprised to see how many member restaurants we had visited over the years, in our search for inspiration. Then, suddenly, they are all there in one room,” he said. “We were also pleasantly surprised by the warmth of our welcome by the other members, and how favorably disposed they really are toward Americans whose direction is the same as theirs. We had a great deal in common.”
“This opens up new avenues for The Inn,” Mr. O’Connell continued. “New patrons from other places, inspiration from others in the same business in other countries, the possibility of staff exchanges...”
Membership in the association also enables each establishment to assist in arranging accommodations for its patrons during their travels. “It’s quite wondrous to be sharing that kind of clientele,” Mr. O’Connell said, adding that the other members “were quite pleased to have (an inn) which they could recommend to their countrymen when they are visiting D. C.”
