She pointed out that $75,000 has already been spent on architectural fees and construction plans. “I ask that you delay no longer,” she said, requesting a night meeting the week of Dec. 12-18.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke confirmed that a change in the county budget of more than one percent of the total, or $500,000, requires a public hearing which has been advertised for one week.
Mr. Miller argued for holding a general public hearing on the high school expansion and then following that up with a second hearing on whether to accept the literary loan, should the supervisors decide to let the project proceed. “I’m in favor of holding one meeting at a time,” he said.
But he was outvoted 3-1 by his fellow supervisors Charles Estes, Hubert Gilkey and J. R. Latham, who opted to combine a hearing on the over-all expansion plan with a hearing on acceptance of the $1.5 million literary loan. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. in the RCHS auditorium.
