Rappahannock News photo/Lou Hatter RESCUE PERSONNEL EXTRICATE a young woman from the wreckage of her 1980 Datsun 280 ZX on Rt. 642 near Amissville Saturday night. According to Trooper R. A. Baines, the vehicle was northbound when the driver apparently lost control. The car left the roadway and slammed into a utility pole, splitting it and pinning the driver in the wreckage. Firefighters and rescue workers used the “Jaws of Life” to get the woman out, as power lines dangled above the scene. The woman was transported to Fauquier Hospital by Flint Hill Co. 4 medic unit. Trooper Baines said that she possibly sustained head and internal injuries, but that the extent of her injuries is still unknown. Because she is a juvenile her name was not released. Units from Amissville, Washington, Flint Hill and Sperryville responded to the scene. Trooper Baines said that no charges have been filed at this time, and that he did not know if she was wearing a seat belt. Rescue workers commended Roger Cordani, a career firefighter who lives across Rt. 642 from the scene, with a large measure of assistance in extricating the woman as speedily as they did. “He deserves a lot of the credit,” said Scott Chamberlain of Amissville’s Co. 3.
