He criticized the architect’s presentation of the expansion program as an “all or nothing” project. “I don’t think that’s very fair or very wise and I don’t think it’s serving the educational interests of Rappahannock’s young people.”
On previous occasions, school superintendent Robert Estabrook has told the supervisors that the time limit in which the School Board must act to get the project underway eliminates any possibility of changing or scaling down the building program. “I don’t buy the argument that the architects can’t revise the design and have it ready in time,” Mr. Miller said on Monday.
Representing a citizens’ group supporting the RCHS expansion, Helen May asked for a hearing, saying that a capital expenditure of this magnitude deserves “a timely, full and open public forum ... so the public can decide the merits of the building program and make the supervisors aware of their position.”
