sonal touch to Christmas. Erik Kvames, Rappahannock glass blower, has his own 1986 ornaments for sale at his shop near Sperryville.
“I’ve tried to make them a little different every year,” he said of his Christmas tree decorations. “People collect them and this gives them a variety of hand-blown glass to hang on the tree.”
This year’s ornament is a little lighter in weight, something Erik has deliberately tried to achieve. “One year, the glass ornaments were so heavy that people complained they weighed down the tree,” he explained.
At Country Heritage in Washington, you can find handmade patchwork boxes for sale, along with other locally crafted items.
For children, there are appliqued T-shirt and towel sets made right here in Castleton. Also for children is free shopping advice from Nan Thomassen. “I like for kids to be able to come in here with a couple of dollars and look around for presents for their parents,” she said. “We encourage them, and we’ll try to help them.”
