Coach Gary Leake is expecting a strong showing from the Rappahannock boys’ basketball team this year. “I’m optimistic ... we are predicted to finish second in the conference,” the coach said in an interview with the Rappahannock News Tuesday afternoon.
“That pleases me to a certain extent, but when you get picked that high at the beginning of the season, it puts a certain amount of pressure on the team. I’ve told the team,” Coach Leake continued, “that I want them to know that we take the season one game at a time ... If we keep that approach I feel we will be successful.”
With two scrimmage games under their belts, Mr. Leake said that he was pleased with the team’s performance. Against Luray High School, “the offense was impressive, scoring over 100 points. But the defense needed a lot of work.”
In the second scrimmage, against AA ranked Culpeper High, the Panthers also played quite well, the coach said. “They’re probably the best team we’ll face all year.”
