The supervisors are continuing their search for an out-of-county disposal site for Rappahannock’s solid waste while simultaneously moving towards approval of a sanitary landfill on the Lee property three miles from the town of Washington.
At its Dec. 1 meeting, the board gave the go-ahead to Hurt and Proffitt Engineering to begin geological and hydrological studies, including 10 soil borings to determine rock depth, depth of water table and permability of soils. The field work, which required a front-end loader due to the slope of the Lee property , was done last Wednesday and Thursday, according to Chairman Hubert Gilkey.
