Washington celebrated its first Colonial Christmas last weekend, alid the consensus of opinion seemed to be that it was a successful affair.

“I really felt good about the events.” said Mayor Dean Morehouse. “It was well-orchestrated, well-done. The town has really picked up a vibrant spirit about itself.”

Charlie Eldred, proprietor of the Washington House of Reproductions, agreed with Mayor Morehouse. “It was not a big bash, it was fairly low-key. I think the people who came enjoyed it, and that they w|ll go home and tell their friends. ; “There was enough of a crowd so thiat we could see things that worked -and those that didn’t - in planning for next year. *“I don't think that people were expecting a big commercial-type thing," he continued. “One person drove through town and said he didn’t see anything happening. I reminded him that it is winter, and jokingly asked ‘What did you expect outside?’ He agreed with my point.”

Mayor Morehouse said that “Most important, it served the residents in coordinating their efforts and channeling their enthusiasm. The celebration served to bring a new kind of unity to the community. Everybody from all around was involved. It was a warming experience.”

Fran Eldred added, “I felt comfortable with it. It was a nice, quiet, small-towm Christmas type of event.”

Mayor Morehouse agreed. “It made you say I’m glad I live in Washington, Virginia.’.”
