He was the son of the late William H. and Mary Hunter Wood. He was a fanner in Rappahannock County until 1953, when he went to
Las Cruces, N. M., where he was employed by the U.S. Civil Service at the White Sands Mission Range. He retired in 1971.
He was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Myra Wayland Wood of El Paso, a son, William H. Wood III of Springerville, Ariz., two daughters,
Mrs. Jean Binns of Albuquerque, N. M., and Mrs. Mary Altus of El Paso, and 12 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. at Washington Masonic Cemetery by members of the Masonic Lodge.
Friends may call Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon at Geest-Johnson Funeral Home in Culpeper.
