The Virginia State Police recently announced plans to participate in a special Operation CARE program for the second consecutive year, beginning Friday, Dec. 12, and continuing through National Drunk and Drugged Driving Awareness Week, Dec. 14 through 20.

Operation CARE, an acronym for Combined Accident Reduction Effort, is a state-sponsored national effort to reduce crashes during major holiday periods. The theme for the program this year is “Make My D-Day — Designated Driver” and is an effort to encourage sober driving by motorists, thereby reducing the number of alcohol related fatalities.
