Holiday party hosts and hostesses can help promote this effort by using the “Designated Driver” concept at all gatherings where alcohol will be served. What better gift can a person offer than an extension of the recipient’s life, or to keep them from the misery of knowing they ended someone else’s life prematurely?
All the host or hostess needs to do is to select a few “volunteers” at the beginning of the party to drink non-alcoholic beverages only and to drive the other celebrants home safely. This responsibility can be rotated to other volunteers at the next party.
It is clear that the primary solution to the drunk driving problem is self-discipline. But it is also clear that friends need to care enough to look out for each other.
The State Police suggest that everyone make an early resolution this year: to help friends not drink and drive.
