The State Department of Education will release the money on Dec. 12; invitation to bid with approved specifications for the work must be posted by Feb. 12, or else Rappahannock drops back to the bottom of the funding list with a wait of at least two years to climb back to the top. The architects require a MINIMUM of 40 days to draw the plans for any changes; then the plans must be reapproved by the state. It won’t happen in 60 days - not at any time of the year but especially not now with the holidays.
It is truly shortsighted to scrimp on education. There is probably no single public expenditure which returns such a dividend on the investment.
And there is surely no single public resource more deserving of the expenditure than our children.
We urge the people of Rappahannock to attend the hearing at 7 p.m. next Thursday at the elementary school and make their feelings known. And we urge the Board of Qu ter visors to approve the capital outlay proposal.
