The state expects that trend to continue next year. “They’re pegging our enrollment at 881, an additional loss of 41,” Mr. Estabrook reported. The two percent from the state is not enough to offset the lessened federal support, which leaves the county to absorb the biggest chunk of the proposed 13 percent overall increase in school spending, Mr. Estabrook explained. “I certainly wish I could paint you a rosier income picture, but I can’t.”
