Spring, which has flirted with Virginians during the past week, arrives on Friday, March 20, at 10:52 p.m. The vernal equinox occurs at the moment when the sun moves directly above the earth’s equator and
marks the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere.
“On the day of the vernal equinox, the sun will rise due east and set due west,” reports Dr. Paul H. Knappenberger Jr., director of the Science Museum of Virginia.
