Calories furnish energy.
Whole milk contains vitamin A, a necessary nutrient for eyes and skin. Two percent and skim milk have vitamin A added to make it equally nutritious, minus the calories.
Another nutrient added to milk is vitamin D. Vitamin D aids calcium in building bones and teeth.
Macaroni and cheese is an excellent source of calcium. One cup of homemade macaroni and cheese contains 362 milligrams of calcium. Cheeseburger quiche is another good source of calcium. One-sixth of a pie contains 206 milligrams of calcium. A slice (1/6 of pie) of custard pie contains 146 milligrams of calcium.

Custard pie
2 c. milk, scalded
3-4eggs

19-inch unbaked pie shell
Beat eggs slightly, add sugar, nutmeg, and vanilla; then add scalded milk. Pour into pie shell. Bake at 450 degrees for about 10 minutes; reduce heat to 325 degrees and bake 15 minutes longer or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve cold or hot. If not chilled, unbaked shell may be brushed with beaten egg white and put in hot oven for 3 minutes to help prevent soggy crust.
