Trout anglers should eryoy better fishing this year because of a change in the opening date of the annual season. Opening day for the 1987 trout fishing season will be Saturday, March 21 at 9 a.m.

Jack Hoffman, chief of the Fish Division of the Virginia Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries, said that the change will mean the season starts two weeks earlier than usual, and predicted an increase in the productive fishing time as a result.

He reminded anglers to note the change in both the date and starting time. Also, Mr. Hoffman added, under the listing of special regulation areas, the Little River section in Floyd County WILL NOT be open to public fishing. The land has been posted and trespassing is not permitted.

Fishing regulations in the Shenandoah National Park remain the same as in previous years. The season opens at the same time as the rest of the state.

Daily creel limit is five trout, and all must be at least eight inches in length. Any trout under eight inches must be immediately released,
