whose credits include photos in The Washington Post, NOVAscope, Rural Living, Farm and Country and the Rappahannock News; and Jeanne Petry, a former Virginia resident and friend of Ms. Mahan who now lives in California.
Several of Rappahannock's fiber artists are represented in the exhibit, including work by Janet Kerig, Jeanne Drevas, Nina Moore and Catherine Kiley.
Joel Hoyer has several of his ritual fetish creations on exhibit, including those which will be used as part of a collaborative project in conjunction with a dance choreographed by Sally Nash, with music by Tom Espinola.
Sculptures include works by Rappahannock artists Sam Cliffton and Rex Slack, as well as fine cabinetry by furniture maker Rick Fifield, a friend of gallery artist Lynette Nicholas, who also has one of her watercolors on exhibit.
Laurie Marshall, Linda Hiemstra, Walter Day, Lorraine Duisit (also known for her outstanding music with Trapezoid), Dan Lewis, Eva Jonasson-Wine and Agustino (Lucho) Pozo are a few of the painters with works showing as part of this exhibit. Some names are familiar to the county, others have come from as far as Chile to participate in the show.
Works included in the show are too diverse to be described, and there are many other gallery artists and their friends included in the show who have not been mentioned.
The pieces on exhibit include many styles, representing the cultural influences of the diverse backgrounds of the artists. They range from the real to the abstract, in vivid color and stark black and white, and illustrate the range of art being created today.
The show is a rare opportunity for residents of Rappahannock County to view a cross-section of the creations of not only the artists who live here, but also those who live in places as different as California, Maine, Moscow, Chile and the Middle East. It is an extraordinary exhibit.
