Landfill update June 18
The Concerned Citizens of Jackson District will hold a meeting at the Amissville Fire Department on Thursday, June 18 at 7:80 p.m. An update on the landfill situation will be given. All county residents are invited to attend.
RAAC sponsors summer event
Exotic dancers, bawaiian music, bagpipes, juggler and gospel music will lend a truly international flavor to this year’s All-Star Revue, to be presented by RAAC at the Gay St. Theatre Saturday at 8 p.m. And, for the first time ever in Rappahannock County, Eric Kvames will appear as Master of Ceremonies, assisted by his multi-talented dog Hugo.
Transformation: Folktale into theater
RAAC’s Artists’ Forum Series presents the artistic director of The Golden Key Performance Group, Julie Portman, who will lead a daylong workshop in the art of transforming a folktale into a theatrical presentation. Using gesture, acting, live music and movement the participants will explore the rich images that form the inner meaning of the folktale. Please bring your favorite folktale!

Free bellydance class
Rappahannock County’s own professional bellydancer, ANTHEA, is offering Beginner’s Bellydance classes at Angela’s School of* Dance, 141 E. Davis St., Culpeper, starting Wednesday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m. The first class is free! All ages and sizes are invited. Be sure to be there.
Summer reading program
READiscover U.S.-Celebrate, at the Rappahannock Library this summer! Children ages 3 to 12 can participate in an exciting journey through America’s history and discover new books, and perhaps get a peek into the fiiture. Everyone is invited to come to the library, where a program of stories, crafts, guitar music and contests will be offered.
On July 8 our guest will be John Cheatwood, professional story teller. He specializes in “Jack Tales,” and Uncle Remus stories. Registration begins now and the first event is June 24 at 10 a.m. The program will run for eight weeks. Sound thrilling? Don’t give in to boredom this summer. ‘The Woman Artist9 workshop planned
A weekend workshop for women artists and writers, “The > Woman Artist: Ritual, Myth, and Transformation," will be offered June 26-27 by Denise H. Horton, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist and writer in private practice in Washington, D.C. and Rappahannock County.
The workshop will explore the use of ritual and ceremony in the creative process, and will include a Native American sweat lodge ceremony, mandia drawing, sandpainting, journalling, and exercises to explore the creative unconscious. Swimming and hot-tub will also be available. The workshop will be held at Golden Horse Farm in Hume, Virginia. For fiirther information on upcoming workshops contact Dr. Horton at (202) 967-7999.
Cohcert Assn, dinner/meeting
The Community Concert Association will hold its annual business meeting and dinner on Friday, June 26 at the Culpeper Holiday Inn. All members of the five-county Association are invited to attend.
A social hour with cash bar will start at 6:30 p.m. with a turkey dinner to follow at 7 p.m. The 8 p.m. business meeting will include election and installation of officers and directors for the coming year and reports and on the current membership campaign.
Any member who wishes to attend the dinner should make reservations by sending a check for $12.50 per person, payable to the Community Concert Association to Rawley Coleman, 2433 Orange Rd., Culpeper, VA 22701, no later than June 23.
New beginnercise classes
A new exercise-to-music class will begin Wednesday morning June 24 at the Flint Hill fire hall. These classes are for people who are just beginning to exercise and are geared to slowly stretch out the muscles while using proper breathing to gain some benefit for heart and lungs. The half hour classes are Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 a.m. and will continue thorugh July 31. The fee for the six-week series will be $20. Call Rose Ann Sharp at 675-3887 for more information.
Flexercise and aerobic dance classes
A new six-week series of classes will begin June 23 at the Flint Hill fire hall. Aerobic dance classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. Flexercise classes will be at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
