The United States Environmental Protection Agency has outlined indemnification and disposal procedures for all pesticides containing the active ingredient Dinoseb. The EPA will accept only claims filed on EPA Form 8500-22 and postmarked or received before July 14,1987.
EPA suspended the sale, distribution and use of dinoseb products and issued a notice of intent to cancel all dinoseb product registrations as of Oct. 7, 1986. EPA’s action was based on laboratory animal studies which showed that exposure to dinoseb products from field application posed unreasonable risks of birth defects to unborn children of pregnant women and significant risk of sterility to male workers.
During the initial phase of cancellation, many dealers and distributors allowed the end user to return stocks for refund. Much of this activity, according to the EPA, was associated with manufacturer and registrant recalls of their products. Because most manufacturers and
