Disaster
payments
increase
The Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service has announced that disaster payments on previously approved applications for 1986 crop losses will be increased from 73.9 to 100 percent.
This is one of the new provisions to the 1986 disaster payment program made by the Farm Disaster Assistance Act of 1987. The provisions affect payments to farmers in counties declared disaster areas due to certain natural disasters during 1986.
Although the provisions are part of a new law, actual funds for the payments have not been appropriated by Congress, an ASCS spokesperson said.
Linda P. Henry, County Executive Director, Rappahannock County ASCS Office, stated that farmers must apply for benefits under the new provisions by June 26.
An additional amendment to the Act which affects the 1986 disaster pyaments program authorizes payments for losses , in 1986 apple production due to freeze.
