Now is the time spiders come out of the woodwork, only notice spiders outside, her that they help control insect pests.
Spiders inside the home, however, are a greater concern. Two poisonous species, the black widow and brown recluse spider, tend to inhabit dwellings and other structures. Other spiders commonly found indoors include cobwed spiders, fimnelweb and jumping spiders and the larger, hairy wolf spiders.
Sealing foundation cracks and restaddng items stored in basements or garages help control spiders. If poisonous spiders are present, wear gloves when cleaning.
If chemical control is necessary, use a residual spray containing diazinon, chlorpyrifos, carbaryl, resmethrin and malathion. These pesticides are found in most “home insect killer” products.
