Father’s Day, June 21, traditionally is a day for family cookouts. Beef is considered the official Father’s Day entree endorsed by the Father’s Day Council.

It’s reassuring to know that when you serve Dad one of his favorite meals on this special occasion, you are not only satisfying his appetite, you are also meeting many of his nutritional needs. Beef provides protein, essential B vitamins and iron which help to maintain a healthy body.

Dad is sure to enjoy a tender, tasty steak or a juicy, flavorful roast prepared on the grill. A delicious yet subtle change of taste will come from using mesquite in your grill.

Economical cuts of beef are great if tenderized before grilling. A blade steak can be marinated several hours in a brandy, lemon juice, oil, onion salt and crushed peppercorn mixture and then grilled or use your favorite marinade recipe for less tender cuts. Remember that tender cuts of beef do not need marinating. They can be grilled directly out of their package.
