The May meeting of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter NSDAR was held during a luncheon at the Orange Gourmet with 50 members and guests in attendance, Mrs. Douglas Fairfax, Regent, presiding.
Mrs. Edgar F. Puryear Jr. introduced the speaker Mrs. William L. Deneke whose topic was “The Early Age of James Madison.” President Madison was bom in King County, Virginia in 1751. His parents were James Madison and Eleanor Rose Conway Madison. He was frail and sickly as a child, requiring private tutoring. He attended the College of New Jersey, now known as Princeton.
He became active in politics while in college helping to found the American Whig Society. His early on intention however was to enter this ministry but he eventually turned to public affairs. In 1774, at
