The Rappahannock County Library is sponsoring a state-funded summer reading program. The program starts June 24 and ends August 12. It is open to children ages 3 to 12. The theme of the program is READiscover U.S.-Celebrate.
On Wednesday, beginning at 10 a.m. each week there will be a story hour. Children will be read three or more stories and there will also be an easy craft for the children to do.
On the other days children are encouraged to come to the library and choose a book from eight categories: other worlds, nature, mystery, sports and hobbies, giggles, adventure, long ago and retd life.
On Wednesday, July 8, John Cheatwood, professional story teller and specialist in “Jack Tales” and Uncle Remus stories, will be a special guest at the library.
On July 13 the “Puppets by Pizzazz” will help to close the event. There will also be a party at 7:30 p.m. /

Band concert
in Front Royal
The Front Royal and Warren County Community Band will present a summer band concert on the lawn behind the Raymond E. Santmyers Youth Center in Front Royal on Friday evening, June 19 at 7:30 p.m.
The Community Band, which has approximately 50 members from Front Royal, Winchester, Berryville and surrounding communities, will present a program of marches, show tunes, light concert and patriotic selections.
A feature of Friday evening’s concert will be a performance of Richard Russell Bennett’s arrangement of selections from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s hit musical, “The Sound of Music.” The Band will play selections from several other musicals including “Music Man,” “South Pacific” and “Man of La Mancha.”
The Band will conclude its summer season with a grand finale concert as part of the Independence Day Celebration at the 4-H Center, on Friday, July 3 at 8:30 p.m. The concert will include a variety of marches and patriotic selections. Fireworks and other activities are being planned for the celebration which is being co-sponsored by the 4-H Center and the Front Royal Recreation Department.
