He acknowledged that teachers will lose the half hour of planning time they had while students were in phys ed. “I’m concerned about the planning time and we’re looking for a way to protect it, to provide as much time for planning as we can,'' he said, adding that no decision has yet been made on what to do with the classes during the half hour. The youngsters may have phys ed with their regular classroom teachers or they may be in an “enrichment” program, the superintendent said.
“It’s not an ideal decision, but I’m not sure there is an ideal decision here.”

Returning to open session at the meeting July 14, the School Board members voted on a long list of appointments, resignations and assignments as well as various pupil personnel matters. They did not act publicly on anything related to the reassignment of an aide to the PE program. Neither do the minutes for the meeting make any mention of the matter.
After consulting his notes, Dr. Gangel explained that during the board’s executive session discussion of other personnel items, he brought up the aide question as “a point of information” and “indicated the impact” of his decision not to reassign an aide to the PE program.
