To the editor.
I have dallied writing this letter, hoping, I suppose, that someone else would do it, or that the whole issue would go away. But I am afraid it hasn’t and, meanwhile, I find my courage to speak out has gotten stronger.
I feel that the planned widening of Route 211 from Washington to Sperryville is a terrible mistake. I travel that stretch many times a week and, apart from one or two weekends in the fall, have never found it to be crowded. A larger, faster highway will ruin the folksy and gentle character of the road as it now stands; will encourage more development at this end of the county, which up to now has been spared
