She took a deep breath, as if looking for the will power to ignore the painting in her head while she still had framing before her. “I ADORE having people look at my work and say they like it. I ADORE selling a painting. But the real reason you do it is for the doing of it,” Phyllis McCreary, the artist, maintained. “Because nothing else requires as much of you. Because nothing else uses as much of you. Therefore you get more satisfaction out of it than anything else in this world.”
Phyllis McCreary’s solo show will open at the Middle Street Gallery on Saturday, August 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. and continue through August SO. The gallery, located at the center of town in Washington, is a non-profit, cooperative venture involving SO painters, sculptors and photographers from the Piedmont countryside, the only one of its kind in rural Northern Virginia.
