RAPPAHANNOCK FARMERS LOST a smiling face at the ASCS office this month. Mary Updike, who worked in the office for 20 years, retired July 17. “I’m going to miss the people, she said, although she admitted she is“real excited about retiring — when I m not crying. This is the last day of one part of my life,” she added, “and tomorrow is the first day of a new part. ” Her plans on retirement? “I’ve got a house full of stuff that I always said I’d put away when I retired. Now I’ve got to do it! Mrs.Updike plans to visit family in Suffolk, then return to enjoy Rappahannock. “I’ll be here forever,” she smiled. “I’ll never leave!”
