From Menefee to Jones, all
ten County Clerks who have served in Rappahannock have come from old county families. Diane Bruce, the new County Clerk, doesn’t break this precedent. “On both sides of my family, we’ve always lived in Rappahannock,” she commented. A graduate of Longwood College with a degree in business administration, Ms. Bruce attended elementary school in SperryviUe and high school in Warrenton, where her mother was a teacher. Ms. Bruce was appointed County Clerk by Circuit Court Judge Rayner V. Snead to fill the unexpired term of Ned Jones until November 1978. Then she’ll have to stand for re-election.

Donald L. Bailey, son of
Zelda D. Collier of Elkton and Leon L. Bailey of Washington, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of senior master sergeant. Bailey is a vehicle maintenance superintendent with the 819th Civil Engineering Squadron at RAF Wethersfield, England.
Two Rappahannock County students graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in ceremonies held in Blacksburg on June 12. W. K. Hodson of Flint Hill received a bachelor of arts degree in communications. David B. Miller of Washington, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Newbill Miller, earned a bachelor of science degree in biology.
