Aug. 1 is Madison
County Day
The streets of Madison will be closed to traffic Saturday, August 1, as craftsmen, vendors and pedestrians take over. Madison County Day celebrations will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. The annual event is sponsored jointly by the Madison Volunteer Fire Company, the Madison Jaycees and the Extension Service.
There will be arts and crafts exhibits, live music, flea market items, a “county fair” style exhibit, and games for the entire family. There will also be a Tiny Tot pageant on Saturday morning for children through age 3.
Anyone is welcome to join in the family games which begin at 11:30 and continue until 4 p.m. There will be a potato sack race, egg toss, three-wheeler races, hog calling contest, pie-eating and watermelon-eating contests and a number of other -events. Volleyball players are also urged to get their own team and join in the tournament which begins in front of the library at 2 p.m.
There will be plenty of food for sale as well as all types of other items.
All proceeds will be divided between the Fire Company and the Jaycees. There is no admission charge to Madison County Day but donations at the entrance will be greatly appreciated.
Madison is located on Route 29 between Charlottesville and Culpeper.
