The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, met on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Culpeper United Methodist Church, Mrs. Douglas Fairfax, Regent, presiding. The program • was presented by Mrs. John S. Board, Chairman of Constitution Week, and was entitled “Worth Fighting for—Virginia Ratification of the Constitution,” a video-program moderated by James J. Kilpatrick.
The State of Virginia, the key player in the Constitution ratifica, tion, held a convention in Williamsburg, with Judge Pendleton presiding, to thrash out whether or j. not a Bill of Rights should be included.
Patrick Henry opposed the ratification because he believed it endangered the rights of individuals and states. He and George Mason fought long and hard with James Madison and Edmund Randolph and on June ‘ 25, 1788, Virginia ratified the United States Constitution, the basic law of the country. And the first
