As a kickoff for Fire Prevention Week, the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department has scheduled an open house this Sunday, Oct. 2, from 1-5 p.m. This is the second year that the department has offered this event as a public service.
Among the activities planned for the afternoon, according to an Amissville VFD spokesman, are:
1 p.m.: Landing of University of Virginia Medical Center’s Pegasus med-evac helicopter. Pegasus is on call, so if it is needed on an emergency it may be delayed or may leave early.
1:30-2 p.m.: Smokey the Bear, representing the Virginia Division of Forestry. Smokey will give a fire prevention talk for the children.
2 p.m.: Auto extrication demonstration by Amissville personnel.
