Two county residents have been charged with grand larceny and destruction of public property in the theft and destruction of the Rappahannock County Public Library’s lantern on Sept. 18.
According to Capt. Ed Streapy of the Rappahannock County Sheriffs Department, Ernest Lee Rooker, 18, of Rt. 1 Box 344, Washington, and Robert Edward Pullen, 26, of Rt. 1 Box 310, Washington, were charged last week with the theft of the lantern. Capt. Streapy said that the light’s supporting pole was pulled over and the lantern ripped off the top. It was found, badly damaged, on the grounds of Trinity Episcopal
