“It was sick!” Kelly interjected.

"Mine started bleeding and its eye kind of came out,” added Karen.

And Jessica volunteered: “I didn’t do it. I didn’t want to touch a dead fish!”

All confirm that they have not eaten fish since returning; all say their meal of choice is anything but seafood.

They also have a proposal for bringing kids from the Eastern Shore to the mountains and a summer TAG program on farming, farm animals and the wildlife and plant life of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Being the only campers not conversant with the Chesapeake, the girls from RCES got teased: “They’d say, ‘You people from the mountains probably don’t know what this is; this is a fish,’, or ‘You people from the mountains probably won’t recognize this; it’s a boat.’ ” Kelly complained.

The girls now want a fair play turnaround and the chance to go from newcomers at the shore to know-it-alls in the orchards, fields and forests of Rappahannock. "Yeh,” concluded Shannon, “lots of them have never even seen a cow!”
