Mr. Coleman agreed that most people look past party labels when voting for state and local candidates. “But,” he maintained, “it’s beginning to dawn on people that Republican philosophies make more sense to people at a local level as well as at the national level.” And, he said, the election of a Democratic candidate, even on the local level, “gives rise to part of that party’s power structure."
