The 32nd annual Rappahannock House Tour and Dried Flower Sale traditionally takes place on the third weekend of October. This year it’s Saturday the 15th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday the 16th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Among houses to be shown this year is Spring Hill Farm, the home of Aileen and C. Keeton Barnes, located one mile north of Rediviva on the east side of Rt. 622. This lovely farm home evolved from a two-story log house built in the mid 1700’s, probably as a tenant house for Reality Farm about a half mile south, which was a portion of the original Willis Grant from King George III. Real Estate (jElJ Eileen M. Day realtor HIRING A HOUSE INSPECTOR Naturally you will carefully inspect any home you intend to purchase as best you can. However, if you are not a building expert and you have some serious questions about the house’s structure or systems, it makes sense to hire an independent house inspector to do a professional job. If this is your case, here are a few pointers. Home inspectors are supposed to work FOR the buyer. The real estate agent is not the inspection expert and he or she will be the first to tell you. Hire a house inspector who is totally impartial. That means someone who simply inspects the house and submits the findings but does nothing whatsoever to correct any fault he may find. In that way, the inspector will not be motivated to "discover” a lot of extra faults as a means toward finding repair work. The inspector should be knowlm edgeable enough to give approxiJ mate costs of repairs as a guide so the client can make an informed decision on the house.
