Develop an emergency plan that includes ways to communicate distress to fellow workers, your house, or a neighbor; for example, two-way radios and prearranged visual signals, such as flashing lights or arms gestures. Let people know where you’ll be working, what you’ll be doing, and when to expect you back. If something doesn’t seem right, such as a rig that has not moved for sometime, check it out.
• Post emergency names and numbers by each telephone, including the number of your poison control center and a reliable neighbor. Teach youngsters how to call for help.
• Develop and practice a home fire escape plan which provides for at least two exits from every room. Install smoke detectors or alarms.
