Scrap benefits class trip

The Rappahannock County Elementary School and RALLY urge county residents to continue to save their aluminum beverage cans. Although the county recycling day has been suspended temporarily, on Saturday, April 1, during County Beautification Day, cans and other aluminum (please bag separately) will be collected from 9:3011:30 a.m. at the Rec Center to benefit the seventh-grade Class of 1990’s trip to Williamsburg. Drivers will also be needed to transport the aluminum to Front Royal after the drive is completed. For more information about the aluminum drive or to volunteer a truck or driver, contact Nina Stamer (675-3810) or Arthur Neufeld at RCES (987-8259).

Hospice offers training

Hospice of the Rapidan’s Volunteer Training Sessions will be held the evenings of Thursday, April (5, and Monday, April 10, and all day Saturday, April 8. Volunteers provide a "special kind of caring" by assisting with transportation, emotional support, patient advocacy and bereavement counseling. County Beautification Day

The Rappahannock Anti-Litter League and You (RALLY) will sponsor its annual County Beautification Day on Saturday, April 1. Planned as a cleanup of the most litter-strewn areas of the county, RALLY is encouraging the participation of as many of the county's residents as possible. T-shirts and refreshments will be provided for all. The rain date is the following Saturday, April 8. Art and craft bazaar

Salem Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad will sponsor its first art and craft bazaar on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the fire hall in Griffinsburg, Route 522. The organization is seeking crafters. Anyone interested should contact Dorothy Beck at 547-3957. Deadline for reservation is May 1.

'Locals' star in concert

Local musicians Tom Espinola and Lorraine Duisit will be joined by Freyda Epstein, Ralph Gordon, Seth Austin and Fred Boyce fora concert at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday, March 18. The six bring a wide range of musical experience to the concert, having performed classical, folk, traditional, blues and new-age music across the country. “Local, in this case, doesn’t mean of only limited interest or appeal,” said a spokesman for RAAC, which is sponsoring the concert. Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert are $7.50 in advance, $9 at the door. RAAC member discounts will apply for tickets purchased in advance at Mountainside Market in Washington.
