When the electronic classroom concept was presented, it was not supposed to cost the county anything. In the past the state has covered the cost. Dr. Gangel said that he found out two months ago that there would be a “modest fee. I have spent most of the past two months trying to find out what that modest fee will be,” he said, and finally it turned out to be $189.27 per student.
Raises would improve rank
The proposed eight percent raises for all employees accounts for another large portion of the increase in the budget. Increases to the teachers’ salaries alone add $154,050. The county is required by the state to offer teachers at least a 7.3 percent increase. Dr. Gangel’s proposed teachers’ salary scale calls for an eight percent increase to the base.
Any beginning teachers hired would get five percent more than that amount, while teachers who are new this year and return next year will get six percent more than the base. Those going from one year to two years of experience will get seven percent over the base and those going from twro years’ experience to three years’ experience will get nine percent above the base. From that point on the new' salary schedule follows the old index system, topping out for those with 25 or more years’ experience being paid 60 percent above the1 base.
