Budget
Continued from page 1
This year two teachers and two teachers’ aides, who work full-time with those teachers, are being paid with federal Chapter 1 money. Those teachers offer remediation to students in second through seventh grades in reading and mathematics. In addition there are eight teachers’ aides serving the schools in various capacities being paid through the regular budget.
Also the new budget calls for keeping the part-time position of Volunteer Coordinator, which is now funded through a grant, and paying for that position with regular budget money at a cost of $4,622.
Making use of the electronic classroom is another area for improving instruction. With this program high school students will be able to take Latin or Advanced Placement English by watching television while they are connected by telephone to the teacher at a television studio in Harrisonburg. This will cost $4,732, Dr. Gangel estimates, assuming that 25 students will take advantage of the opportunity.
